Rewiring America acquires Carbon Switch, a top online residential electrification resource
WASHINGTON D.C. — Rewiring America, the country’s leading electrification nonprofit, today announced the acquisition of Carbon Switch, one of the preeminent sources of independent reviews of home electric appliances.
In acquiring Carbon Switch, Rewiring America is broadening its services and deepening its wealth of consumer-focused educational resources, reinforcing the organization’s reputation as the nation’s leader in the movement to electrify everything.
“We are thrilled Carbon Switch will be joining Rewiring America, and thank Michael Thomas for his brilliance in building this valuable resource,” said Ari Matusiak, Rewiring America Co-Founder and CEO. “Our goal is to make electrification simple, measurable and inevitable, and we are committed to helping households understand the options and benefits available to them. Carbon Switch has the content and ability to do just that, helping consumers cut through the product noise to electrify with ease.”
“When I started Carbon Switch, I had a simple goal: provide the best information on electric appliances like heat pumps and induction stoves,” said Michael Thomas, CEO and Founder of Carbon Switch. “Two years later, we’ve reached millions of homeowners with our guides and reviews. But there’s still so much work to do to educate people on the benefits of electrification. I can’t think of a better partner in that mission than Rewiring America.”
While Carbon Switch will still live on as its own website, its resources will be incorporated into Rewiring America’s platform beginning in early 2023. Rewiring America will be launching a one-stop electric content shop complete with exciting new guides and research to help inform Americans’ buying decisions, given the new money available to all households to go electric through the Inflation Reduction Act. Michael Thomas will be stepping down from his full-time role at Carbon Switch in order to focus on independent writing projects.
Rewiring America is also hiring a writer to support this new pipeline of content, so if you love writing about all things electric, be sure to visit RewiringAmerica.org to apply!
